23rd & 24th August 2013
By Paul Garner
The weather for Sunday wasn’t looking very good at all during the week down here in Naki-Land, and we were thinking we might have to jam everything into one day but no, we weather came right and we went for the standard two days of racing.
Come Saturday morning, we found by having a slight breeze behind us all day made an awesome days racing .We had a quick rain shower in the morning, then it became rainless for the rest of the day and we finished up at 4.45pm .Cheers to Graham for an awesome barbecue.
At least the rain stayed away and we had good flat water to run on!
We had 3 heats over 2 days and Craig took the win out in Good One from Merv and Jason.
P Hydro (FE)
Another win for Craig taking out 3 heat wins with his boat Superior! Think Jason and Merv need to get their act together to stop this Rookie taking out all the class wins he enters.
1/8th FE Scale Hydro
Jason and Merv were the only entries with Merv showing pace with the boat he took to the USA, Peters & May and took out the win.
Looking at the pits from the course
We had four of us entered, with Brett having problems with Genesis, so Jason and Craig came to the party and helped him sort his boat out (A big thumbs up to Jason and Craig). It was showing great speed when it was going but was unreliable through out the heat racing.
Paul also had problems and managed to finish some heats and go through to the final.
Merv had some tuning problems and show good pace once sorted out.
John was having a mighty fine day and showed good pace took out the final.
Classic Petrol Hydro
Straight after the sport 45s we got into the Classics Petrol Hydros and we had three boats for a change and the racing was reasonably close. Merv’s new boat, Miss Coruba was showing some awesome pace.
Thanks to Jason, Paul’s was sorted and had good pace when the hatch was off. (just need to sort out some more breathing holes.)
John had his humming throughout the heat racing.
Merv took his first Classic Hydro win, well done!
Jaspers at speed
1/8th Scale Hydro
We only had three entries this weekend which was a bit disappointing but we had enough people to be pitmen.
Craig boat Jaspers was extremely fast, so was John and Merv’s.
Merv boat didn’t get into the heats because of a mechanical failure with a broke and twisted drive cable at the motor end and was out for the rest of the day. This left Craig and John fighting for the points in the heats.
The final came to a two boat race. When Craig and John came up to the start at the start gun they bumped together and that made Johns boat roll over and stop, There was damage to Craig’s Jaspers but he managed to keep going and went on to finish and win the Final Take All Diamond Cup. Well done Craig, three wins in a row, not bad for a rookie!
Craig, Winner of the Diamond Cup
We all had a great time and was good to some new boats on the water.
Thanks to the Naki Team for helping with the BBQ and setting up.
Some really good photos taken by Craig,
Check out Craig’s photos on his Face Book!
