THE SEAFAIR TROPHY
By Merv Sowden
Against All Odds
Not knowing if we were going to have enough water to race on and with the local weather forecast predicting storms our weekend turned out pretty good. The Council are in the process of clearing the mud out of the far pond and have drained the water leaving us with just enough water to run our regatta on. Unfortunately vandals had knocked out some of the timber that governs the height of our racing water. Thanks to Phil for getting the timber replaced and shoring up the gate with extra timber we had enough water to race on. The weather behaved itself and the predicated storms turned into occasional showers with gusty winds but luckily the racing water was not affected too much by this.
As we have been doing for a few years now we have combined The Seafair Trophy with the Manukau Club Champs. Without the host Club help with the pitting and doing other mediocre tasks, this event would not be able to run…Thanks guys for helping.
We had good attendances from the Bay of Plenty Club and it was good to see some old faces once again racing. A big thanks to John from The Taranaki Club for attending. John hasn’t missed a regatta for over 10yrs now….
We had the SUHA AGM on Saturday Night and Phil stepped down as Secretary/Treasurer and Chris was elected. Phil was elected as Vice President. Phil and I were elected unanimously as Life Members.
A big Thank You must also be given to Bev for her behind the scenes work that she does to help to keep the SUHA events working smoothly, that soup was spot on for Saturday, Thanks Bev.
