The weather forecast for the weekend said we were going to have strong winds. The Yacht Club side of the lake was booked for Sundays racing which should give us a bit of protection from the wind but unfortunately the big yachts were racing there on the Saturday. The side of the lake that the Hamilton RC Boat Club normally run would receive the full force of the wind and finding an alternative lake with protection was not successful so it was decided late in the week to just run on the Sunday. We cut out the 1 lap sprints and started early with the electrics which gave us fairly smooth water. This was followed by the 1/8ths and as the Final Take all came nearer the water was started to become lumpy. Gas Sports was next and as you can see in the videos it wasn’t all smooth going. With the water quite lumpy now and as we were kindly notified earlier in the morning that a wedding party had booked the Yacht Club Rooms for a Wedding Function starting at 3pm we decided not to run the Scale45 Hydros and this would be run at a later date possibly during an Auckland Club Day. We went straight into the Classic Petrol Hydros and some interesting racing was achieved in the now very lumpy water.

Chris and Merv did Demos in their electric 1/8^th Scale Hydros.

Phil debut his new 1/8^th Miss Madison Valvoline and promptly won his first heat race. Unfortunately hit a buoy in his second heat and lost his cowl. Dark blue cowl and rough water didn’t help as it had floatation. Bob said he had done a walk around the lake fringe without success and a search was carried out by Phil and Merv in a dinghy several weeks later also with no success. A new cowl is now on its way.

It was good to see Terry and his gang from Masterton and I believe they acquired another Classic petrol hydro to add to their fleet of boats.
We appreciate them for the effort of travelling all the way for a days racing and you still needed to go home. Thanks Guys.

It was also good to see Matt run his Miss Exide.
