The Silver Cup

Lake Rotapiko Taranaki

January 29^th & 30^th 2011.

The Silver Cup had one of those weekends of unsettled weather making Saturday impossible to run at Lake Waitara. Luckily Paul had also booked the Lake at Rotapiko as an alternative racing venue which turned out to be more sheltered.

 Saturday morning we managed to run the small electrics with Jeff taking out both the N2 and Limited P Hydro races in very trying conditions. Good one Jeff!!

Brett in his first attempt at Scale 45 took out the one lap sprints in lumpy water but still race-able.

We had a few heats of the Scale 45’s but the water was getting rough and in one heat everyone stopped so we called it a day electing to complete the rest of the heats on Sunday.

Water on Sunday was good but was suppose to deteriorate as the day went on so the Scale 45’s were first out and Merv took out the Scale 45 Take All Final with “Rite-On”.

The 1/8^th one lap sprints went to Cellular One as every one else had one sort of a problem or another. It was decided to get the 1/8ths racing before the wind came up.

During the heat racing it was looking to be a tussle between “Cellular One” and “Speedy Printing”

Merv’s Budweiser broke a Crankshaft, John and Jason were still finding it hard to tune their boats and were struggling to get up to speed but  in saying that they were finishing all their heats…………were they foxing?

The Winner Take All was an exciting race and Jason with DeWalt took out the win but Bob with Cellular One was right on his transom making DeWalt work for the win.

The Classic scale hydros went out next and tried to do the one lap Sprints but the wind had just came up making racing impossible so the rest of the racing was cancelled.

Congratulations go to the winners and a Big Thanks to the Taranaki Guys working overtime getting the race sites ready and for the great relaxing weekend.
