GOVERNOR’S CUP
Round 4
LAKE HAKANOA then LAKE TAURIKURA, TAURANGA
20/03/11
We arrived at Lake Hakanoa early, set up the course, ran the electrics, Chris and Merv did a demo with the electric 1/8ths then we were told that we couldn’t run the boats anymore.

Steve suggested to use his lake in Tauranga and after some lengthy discussions on alternative venues and it was decided as some people didn’t have all their boats with them to cancel the rest of the racing for Saturday and meet again at Lake Taurikura Tauranga early Sunday morning and combine both days racing into the Sunday.

The Venue is excellent for racing and well sheltered from the wind. We got in a good days racing and with the help from Dave Richardson (RPM) from the USA and Members Phil and Ben from the Hamilton Club we had enough people to do the pitting and take some Video.

Matt Lee took out the Scale 45 Hydro Winner Take All Final and good to see him once again back in the boating scene. Phil Wooden took out the one lap Sprints in Jaffa and is a very competitive boat. Rite-On screwed a drive shaft and was out for most of the day. Steve and Bob had tuning problems but showed good speed when they were on pipe. Merv’s Budweiser took out the Governors Cup but not without a fight from Steve’s Executone and a very fast and exciting race, especially as the Budweiser cowl came off in the first lap and made the boat a bit flighty. Steve took out the Petrol Classic Hydro, Jeff again won the Limited P Hydro and Chris in Tahoe Miss collect fist for the N2 Hydro.

Thanks again to Steve and the BOP Club for taking up the hosting for the Governor’s Cup at the last moment and we hope to be including BOP in next year’s calendar and Thanks to the people who took the videos.
