Seafair Trophy
Wattle Downs Ponds – Manurewa - Auckland
21st & 22nd May 2011
The Suha Seafair / Manukau Champs turned out with fairly good entries again considering the economical conditions that we are experiencing at the moment. Racing on both days was very exciting with not only the days racing counting but also the Hi-Points for the year for each Class was also up for the grabs.

N2 Electric Hydroplane On Saturday wehad Spider driven by Phil taking out first place from Merv in Century 21, Motul and VooDoo ending with DNF’s Sunday was a bit different with Motul driven by Jason taking out first place with So Good, Century 21 and Spider failing to finish. This gave first equal place to Spider and Motul.
First place for the years Hi-Points was Century 21 .
Limited P was washed out on Saturday but Sunday had Jeff with Superior the only finisher and Jeff also took out the Hi-Points…Good one Jeff.

Scale 45 we had Bob with Lil Snifter’s taking out the 1 lap sprints with a quite respectable 18.65secs
Heat racing was interesting, we had 6 heats videoed plus the final but only had 5 heats plus the Take all Final was recorded on the score sheet.
Heat racing saw Matt Lee with Oh Boy Oberto being the most consistent and was favourite for the Take All Final.
John with Lady Bug decided this wasn’t on and it was his turn for the win and took out the Seafair Trophy Scale 45 win.
Matt whom only raced three out of the five rounds accumulated enough points to take out the Scale 45 Hi-Points. Well done Matt a Great Achievement.
1/8th Scale Hydroplanes had 7 boats entered but John’s new Miss Madison withdrew with a broken (lost) drive cable and had to withdraw and York failed to turn up for the day.
The heats were redrawn but unfortunately as we found out later on only 4 heats were raced as heat 5 was on the other side of the paper and Oh Boy Oberto was only allocated 4 heats which 3 were run. A bit bad on this oversight I must say from the Contest Director for allowing this to happen. Anyway we had some good racing nerveless with Steve cleaning up the 4 heats he raced. Also Steve with Executone won the Winner Take All Final
Bob with Cellular One took out the H-Points Trophy for the year. A good consistent boat Bob, well done!

Gas Sport Hydro and Petrol Classic Hydros had the same boats doubling up for both Classes with the exception of Miss Zenoah that had the miss fortune to run into the jetty down the back straight on the Saturday. Sports Petrol Hydro went to Steve driving Executone and the Hi-Points for the year went to Mountain Dew driven by Andrew.
Ouch! got a bit of a sore nose...
Petrol Classic Hydros Take all Final and Hi-Points of the Year went to Mountain Dew so a big Congratulations to Andrew in taken out both the final and Hi-Points for both Classes.

It was decided at the AGM that the Gas Sport Hydro Class was not attracting any competitors in that Class and we were just doubling up the Petrol Classic Hydros to make that Class. Now that we have 3 electric (10S) 1/8th Scale Hydros ready to race they will take over the Gas Sport Hydro slot.
Once the Executive have been notified that there are 3 or more of these Class Gas Sport Hydros ready to race this Class will be reintroduced.
Electric 1/8th Scale Hydroplanes did a Demo or two to show how they go. The boats were set up on 8S as they will be going to the USA to compete in July. Normally the boats would be set up for 10S lipos which give them a bit more speed and are easier on the electrical gear.

Class One Offshore sprint racing had 4 boats, 1st was Hellbent 46pts, 2nd Toll 42pts 3rd Sparky 37pts 4th Ohio Steel 35 pts

Thanks to the hard workers that helped to set up the course, put up the gazebos, cooked the BBQ and chipped in when required to help with running the show.
